Memory Lane...Banditos
Sometimes the most random thing will trigger a memory. And it's always best when it's something that you don't think of very often.
When we bought our Honda Accord almost three years ago and it came with XM radio. It was free for three months. I loved it but never got around to renewing it because I have a kid and I'm punished by being forced to listen to whatever she wants to listen too so I figured why pay for it.
Well I got a notice in the mail a couple of weeks ago that I would be getting XM in the car again for free for two weeks. I'm still not going to pay for it so I'm really soaking it up for two weeks. I've been flipping through the stations and figuring out which ones are my favorites. I found "Lithium" which is the 90's alternative station and OH MY GOSH I LOVE IT! It's the soundtrack to my teenage years.
So on to the point of my story...I was listening to Lithium on my way home from work on Friday and a song called "Banditos" came on by a band called "The Refreshments" and I was instantly taken back to 1996.
I fell into hysterical laughter. I could not believe that I was hearing this song because I had honestly forgotten about it! It reminded me so much of sitting in the back seat of my Mom's Ford Explorer with my brother sitting to my left in his red and white T-ball uniform. We both loved that song and we would be so excited when Mom would let us pick the radio station. Or when Mom wouldn't let us pick the radio station and we would change it from the back seat because we had that fancy option along with back seat air conditioning. (Note: Mom did not like it when we would randomly change the channel.) But no matter how we heard the song we danced and sang it at the top of our lungs when it came on the radio.
I also remember sitting at home with my brother that summer when it was a huge hit on the radio and he wanted me to call the radio station to request it. I called and because I didn't know the name of that song I said "Hey can you play that stupid people song?" To which the DJ replied "Why does everyone call it the stupid people song? The name of the song is called Banditos, you know like the bad guys." And then they played me asking for it on the radio and my brother thought that was soooooo cool! Hopefully my brother will read this and it will bring a smile to his face like it did mine.
So even though it's really not one of the greatest songs of the 90's I'll never forget it! And for those of you wanting to take a trip down memory lane click the link below (I would like to apologize in advance if it's stuck in your head for a week)....
Hahaha! I forgot about that song too!

My hubby loves that song, too, and he randomly sings it still! It cracks me up.
