The Obsession....
The Obsession started about a year ago I guess. My Dad took Ivy to see a movie called Gnomeo and Juliet. I didn't see the movie until months later when it came out on Bluray and it's pretty cute but the real thing that makes this movie unique is the music. The entire soundtrack is done by Elton John. The soundtrack is basically an Elton John Greatest Hits. I didn't know this about the movie until one day we were riding in the car and Ivy asked me to play "The Rocket Song". I had no clue what she was talking about and that frustrated her big time! After searching my iPod I saw that I had "Rocket Man" on it so I gave it a shot and pressed play. I hit the jackpot because it was exactly what she was talking about.
I couldn't figure out for the life of me where she heard that song but I assumed she heard it at school because her teachers played lots of music for their class....I mean she came home and told me about "Mr. Bob" one day because her teachers played a Bob Marley CD. I explained to Ivy that Elton John made this song and I use to sing Tiny Dancer to her when she was in my belly. Then she wanted to hear that song and then another and then another and then another....you get the point. I asked her if she heard Rocket Man at school and she said no that it was in the Gnomeo and Juliet movie.
I called my Dad tell him just because I thought it was so cute and I knew he would get a kick out of it. Two days later he showed up at my house with the soundtrack for Ivy. She was over the moon about it. And since then I have listened to more Elton John than I ever could have imagined. I mean seriously, I love Elton John...who doesn't really? He's written some of the greatest songs ever but every now and again I like to change things up a bit.
Now I thought this obsession with Elton John would fade after a couple of weeks because lets be honest here....if Disney hasn't plastered the face of a Princess on something Ivy usually gets bored with it fairly quickly. But then a month past, then two months, then six months....obviously Elton is now a part of lives forever.
I think Elton John might be my daughter's HERO. Seriously...she refers to him as a "Sparkly Dude" because he always has on a shiny jacket or glasses when she sees him. She has no idea how accurate "Sparkly Dude" is. But this is her favorite video of him. And the jacket he has on in that video was the inspiration for her Halloween costume. That's right folks SHE WAS SIR ELTON JOHN FOR HALLOWEEN. Now when I asked her what she wanted to be for Halloween I was expecting her to say Rapunzel but instead she looked at me straight in the eyes and said "Elton John because he's a sparkly dude."
Thank goodness my Mom knows how to sew...she made Ivy those pants and that jacket.

Elton John is coming to the James Brown Arena
