Hello Yellowbrick Road....
About a month and a half ago I wrote a post about Ivy's Obsession with Elton John. Well the day after I posted that it was announced that Elton John would be making a stop here in Augusta. I had picked Ivy up after work and while I was driving home it was announced over the radio but I don't usually listen to the radio so I didn't hear it. About ten of my friends did though and my cell phone started going crazy with text messages. Most of the messages were in all caps....."ELTON JOHN IS COMING TO AUGUSTA!"
Umm, excuse me? Elton John is coming to Augusta? It took a minute for it to sink in and then my heart started racing, I was trying hard not to freak out! After all I didn't want Ivy to know about it just in case we couldn't get tickets. I actually called my Mom and had her confirm that people weren't messing with me.
Chris and I had talked about trying to take Ivy to her first concert in a couple years. She knows that Chris and I go to concerts fairly often and she has told us that she wants to see Elton John. Elton John seems to tour fairly often and in a couple of years she would be old enough to stay up kind of late without having meltdowns.
BUT HE'S COMING TO AUGUSTA!!!! How could I not try and get tickets for this?
Then one of my close friends tells me that her best friend can get me tickets from her friend and wanted to know if I would be interested....to which I responded "IS THE POPE CATHOLIC?!" So we were very excited about this. We were going to get tickets without having to stand in line or sell an organ on the black market. Turns out they were tickets from a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend....ok, probably not that many friend of a friends but you get it. We wrote a large check and then got really nervous. After some waiting (that seemed to take weeks and gave me gray hair) we got the tickets.
Now those of you that know me know that I can keep a secret. I can keep a secret locked up like Alcatraz. For those of you that know Chris.....you know that he can't hold water. He was dying to tell Ivy and I wanted to wait. We had already made the mistake of telling her she was going to Disney World about eight months in advance and EVERY SINGLE DAY she would ask, "Am I going to Disney World tomorrow?" So the tickets were finally delivered and after a couple of weeks we decided that we would give them to her on Valentines day.
I wish I had the camera recording when I held up the envelope and said "Here is your present Ivy." She responded with "But it's paper, not a real present." Whatever kid. Ivy doesn't read yet but she knows what Elton John's name looks like so I thought she would get it. I knew she would be happy but I didn't know what kind of reaction we would get once she knew I was recording her.
It went over very well....
Now every morning when I get her in the car (after she requests to hear Elton John) she tells me how many more days until the concert. Today she told me there were five days left. Then she wanted to know if she was going to see Elton John just one day or a lot of days. So I had the pleasure of explaining to her that he isn't our friend and isn't coming over for dinner or spending the night. That was met with a big fat "WHY?" So then I had to explain she was only going to see Elton John sing and not going to meet him.....that was again met with a "WHY?" I'm sure I'll be answering those questions and many more several times a day before the concert, but hey, it's worth it!

Thanks for sharing this little slice of happiness. Oh man it made me tear up. And Ruby loved it too.
