Our Snow Day...
...it was fun! Of course I'm posting this over 2 weeks late but hey that's how I roll. Two weeks late is better than a month late, right? So I am getting better...I really don't mean to neglect my little blog but life gets busy.
There had been warnings for days that it was going to snow and the amount we were suppose to get would vary. It was suppose to start snowing after midnight on Sunday and then turn to freezing rain. That's how it always is here....we see just enough snow flurries to get excited and then it's ice with in a few hours of hitting the ground if it even sticks. We thought nothing of the forecast really because we know that if it does stick it will be melted before we can even get our boots on.
We had dinner Sunday night with my friend Kimberly and her family. We talked about canceling because of the forecast but decided not too because nothing was coming until after midnight. (I'm glad we didn't cancel because Wesley cooked a delicious dinner!) It honestly didn't even look like any kind of storm was coming. After we put Ivy to bed Sunday night Chris and I were relaxing in his mancave....he was playing GT5 and I was playing Angry Birds and P-man was stretched out between us and would make a grunting noise when he wanted his belly rubbed. I guess about 10:30 Chris got up and looked out the window and said "Oh my goodness!" I looked out and it was snowing....it was coming down hard and it was sticking. We were impressed to say the least. He went back to playing his game and I continued to stare out the window at the snow. I love watching snow fall. It looks so peaceful and magical and it makes me feel like a little kid. I don't think I'll ever lose that feeling of excitement when I see snow. Of course the main thing on my mind was that I didn't want to go to work the next day.
Luckily I didn't have to worry about that too much because when I got up the whole city had shut down. All schools, daycares, stores, and unless you were a critical employee at the hospital there was no work. When we went to bed the ground and roofs were covered. I woke up about 4:00 and the street was covered (I have never seen a road covered in snow with no tire tracks). Chris told me that he woke up about 2:00 and it had melted so he was shocked that it had stuck again. We probably had about 3 inches in our yard but there were 5 and 6 inches in some places and of course all the roads were covered with ice. No one could go anywhere even if they wanted too.
We relaxed for a while, ate breakfast, and watched Shrek. There was already a layer of ice on top of the snow but it was suppose to start sleeting bad after lunch so we bundled up to attempt to play in it. Chris could have cared less about playing in it but Ivy and I were itching for it! It was kind of hard at first...we couldn't do much with it until we broke the layer of ice off the top. Ivy got the hang of doing that and then I showed her how to make snowballs and throw them at the retaining wall.

That's right, I can throw a mean snowball! |

Ivy's got a pretty mean arm too! |
Ivy was more concerned with eating the snow instead of playing in it.
We did make a miniature snowman on top of the retaining wall though. Guess what she named him........come on you'll never guess.....Frosty! Yeah she's still obsessed with that movie, although I have hidden it hoping that she will forget about it until next Christmas.
Oh, and it's kind of hard for a 3 year old to walk in snow with a thin layer of ice on top of it in rain boots...
And here is my favorite of the day if you can't already tell from my new banner on the blog...
And normally if we do get enough snow to stick around for a few hours it's gone the next day. But by the end of the day Monday it looked like you could have went ice skating on our front lawn. And this stuff stayed on the roads for days. It was hard to get to work for a couple of days because we don't have snow plows or salt trucks and everything was so slick. I know people are laughing saying "You shut down because you had 3 inches of snow!" But seriously, I city is not equipped to handle that kind of weather. School was out for two days and on a delay the third day and in the surrounding areas they were out for 3 or 4 days. Our yard was pretty much covered for five days! Seriously, I thought hell might have frozen over because that NEVER happens here. I wish we could have gotten a picture of the front of the house but it was too slick to get across the street with out falling. And this was the second time it snowed this season which is also not normal around here.
We had fun on our snow day and I hope you did too if you had one. Click here to see our snow day video.
I wore my rain boots in the snow, too! and they DO NOT keep your feet warm hahah
Whoop whoop, I'm linked in this post! Awesome : )
Love the pictures! They're great, as usual.
Your blog looks awesome!
Thanks Kimberly! I am currently trying to give it an overhaul and make it look better...still working on it some but I'm getting there.
